So, what are The Sole Supplier's picks for the best winter sneakers?
The Best Winter Sneakers
Nike Air Force 1 Low "Black"
First introduced to the market back in 1982, the Nike Air Force 1 is likely one of the most classic sneakers of all time. Crafted from leather all across the uppers, a blacked-out AF1 is a popular trainer choice for many throughout the winter months due to the wipe-clean nature of the pair. If you’re looking for an affordable, failsafe pair to see you through the colder months then you can seldom go wrong with these bad boys!
New Balance 57/40 GORE-TEX
While leather sneakers do the job just fine for many, sometimes a little more protection from the elements is needed. Now seen regularly throughout the sneaker world, GORE-TEX fabrics offer total wind and water resistance, meaning you don’t have to worry about how the weather’s looking before you head on out. New Balance recently decked out their popular 57/40 in the weather resistant fabric and gave it a stealthy triple black colourway to create an excellent winter sneaker, what a pair!
Yeezy DSRT Boot
Often the first to jump on trends, Kanye West pioneered the workwear revival back in 2019 when the rapper launched the Yeezy DSRT Boot as part of his ongoing collaborative project with adidas Originals. Whie it debuted in just three colourways “Oil” and “Rock” and “Salt”, it has since been released in other variations and also makes the perfect winter beater if you prefer a high-top boot-like silhouette.
With the outdoor hype still in full-swing, we couldn’t put together this list without including a pair of sneakers from none other than Salomon. Originally developed for trail running purposes, the Salomon XT-6 has recently shot to new levels of popularity due to it’s sleek looks, durability and comfort. Designed to be weatherproof and capable of gripping all terrains, these babies will handle the city streets with absolute ease throughout the winter, a solid option!
Nike ACG Air Mowabb
Nike’s highly-coveted ACG (All Conditions Gear) line has recently made a huge resurgence, therefore it’s no surprise that some of the legendary footwear offerings from over the years have also been remade for the current market. The Nike ACG Air Mowabb was designed by Tinker Hatfield and drew influence from the Nike Air Huarache, beefing it up into a more winterised and trail-ready silhouette. If you’re looking for a pair of versatile beaters that will work with almost anything, these are the winter sneakers for you.
Nike Air Max 90 Sneakerboot
While we haven’t seen this silhouette for a few years, OG sneakerheads will likely remember the Nike Air Max 90 Sneakerboot with fond memories. Essentially an AM90 that’s been transformed into a boot, what exactly is not to love? Plenty of great colourways have launched over the years including “Flax” (pictured), so if you love your Air Max these are the only winter sneakers you need! Here’s us praying for Nike to bring this one back.
Converse Chuck 70 GORE-TEX
There aren’t many silhouettes as iconic and timeless as the Converse Chuck 70, so when it finally got decked out in GORE-TEX it was a must cop for plenty of us here at TSS HQ. All the looks and heritage of the original model but totally winterised, what’s not to love?! If you’re struggling with what kicks to rock on a rainy winter day, then cop these and you’ll never have to worry again.
Yeezy NSLTD Boot
While it hasn’t yet officially released, we couldn’t leave the upcoming Yeezy NSLTD Boot out of this list, purely because it resembles something you might find worn by a bounty hunter in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. Nonetheless, these insulated (yes, that’s what NSLTD stands for) boots will no doubt be perfect for those icy-cold winter days! While they might not be too easy to get hold of when they finally do release, we reckon if anyone’s lucky enough to grab these, they’re sorted for the next few winters.
Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG "Shadow"
An underdog to some of the more technical sneakers in this list, here at The Sole Supplier the Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG “Shadow” is a firm favourite when it comes to winter beaters. The 1985 classic colourway shows off all the legendary design that makes up Michael Jordan’s first signature Nike sneaker, while black and grey leather panelling means these are particularly resilient to rainy weather and can be cleaned up an absolute treat should they get dirty, what more could you want?
Nike Air Force 1 GORE-TEX
Last but by no means at all least comes another GORE-TEX sneaker, however this time around it’s none other than the Nike Air Force 1 Low GORE-TEX. If you’re into sneakers then we’ve already got an idea that you might be into AF1, so why not deck out your favourite summer kicks in weatherproof fabrics? Nike was obviously listening to whoever voiced that idea first, as these are now a production model that see a yearly release. The AF1 GTX is a go-to pick for everyone in The Sole Supplier office when it comes to the best winter sneaker.
Whether you're looking for a technical sneaker packed with technology and weather resistant materials, or an all-leather sneaker which is easy to clean and even easier to wear, there's sure to be an option on this list to suit your needs for the best winter sneaker.
