Of all the bromances in the world of street and music culture, none come close to that of Virgil Abloh and Kanye West.
Believe it or not, the now legendary designers both interned together at Fendi. It wasn’t long after that Virgil officially joined Kanye’s crew as his creative assistant. The rest is history as he later went on to found Off-White before being named Creative Director of Louis Vuitton. It’s hardly surprising with such history that the talented duo shared a moment during a Louis Vuitton runway show last year.
It seems Virgil wants to celebrate his friendship with Kanye by doing what he does best; designing footwear. Revealing his latest Louis Vuitton sneaker across Instagram, this vibrant pair is just too similar to some of Kanye’s previous work.
That hi-res and vibrant red colourway is surely a throwback to the Nike Air Yeezy 2 ‘Red October’ – a shoe that still resells for over £4,000?! Then there’s the oversized padded tongue and premium leather upper. Fans on Instagram were quick to point out similarities between Kanye’s 2009 Louis Vuitton Don.
No release info has been given for this upcoming sneaker. That said, there is speculation that this will be one of several limited styles available via the “Church & State” pop-up happening later this month at the MCA.
