NOCTA x Nike Air Zoom Drive SP Grey

Drake and his NOCTA sub-label show more love to late 90s sneakers with the return of this underrated classic. The first NOCTA x Nike sneaker, the Nike Hot Step Air Terra, was inspired by the Air Terra Humara. On the other hand, the NOCTA Glide was based on the Air Zoom Flight 95. For the third NOCTA Nike silhouette, the Drake sub-label taps a lifestyle shoe from the archives. This NOCTA x Nike Air Zoom Drive SP “Grey” will return for the first time ever in collaboration with Drake’s technical outdoor fashion sub-label with Nike.

The late 90s was an era of experimentation and discovery for Nike. In 1999, the brand launched the Alpha Project, a short-lived program featuring sneakers with the brand’s latest technologies. The Nike Air Presto, labelled with five dots on the heel, was one of the most popular sneakers from the project. However, before the Presto, the Nike Air Zoom Drive pioneered “t-shirt” sizing on sneakers. Tinker Hatfield designed the Air Zoom Drive, which came out in 1999. Part of the Alpha Project, it was one of the main inspirations that brought the Air Presto concept to life. The Air Zoom Drive features a stretchy mesh upper with various overlays on the toe and sides. Its low-profile V-Notch design on the collar provided a versatile fit that varied depending on the width. The visible Zoom Air unit in the heel delivered maximum cushioning and comfort.

This colourway has a grey mesh base with black accents on the tongue and collar. Small Swoosh logos adorn the toe, while five dots branding on the tongue honours the Alpha Project. The white foam midsole has a visible Zoom Air unit in the heel, while the black waffle outsole completes the futuristic makeover. This NOCTA collaboration will mark the first return of the Air Zoom Drive in the market.
