Awake NY Gives a Polarising Reimagination to Air Jordan 5

Awake NY has unveiled a first look at its upcoming Air Jordan 5 collaboration, set to debut in Spring 2025. Back in October, reports hinted at two colourways releasing in the coming year, featuring bold and innovative applications of the Awake NY logo on the iconic silhouette.

Through an official reveal on the Awake NY Instagram account, Angelo Baque’s design takes a daring approach, reimagining the Air Jordan 5 with a unique twist. The signature netting on the upper has been reshaped into the brand’s “A” logo, retaining the translucent material within. Another striking detail is the oversized reflective tongue, now embroidered with the AWAKE logo, while the customary “23” on the right shoe has been replaced by “NY,” adding a personal and localised touch.

This reinterpretation of the Air Jordan 5 is easily one of the boldest to date, sparking a clear divide between those who embrace its audacity and those who may not. In an era where many sneaker collaborations lean toward safe, conservative designs, Baque and Awake NY deserve credit for pushing creative boundaries and delivering a truly distinctive take on the classic sneaker.

Two colourways are expected to launch. The version shown here features an Arctic Pink/Metallic Silver/University Red/Black/White/Clear colour scheme, while the second iteration swaps the pink for a Black/Racer Blue/Metallic Silver/White/Clear palette.
