The original New Balance 2002 was coveted by fans of New Balance, however the higher retail price point meant it was difficult to find outside of the brand's hometown of Boston. One long-time fan of the shoe was Kith owner Ronnie Fieg, who praised the original's comfort and style.
The 2020 re-release, the New Balance 2002R, took the luxury and comfort of the original and ramped it up. Using luxury cars and watches as inspiration, the newer release is sleeker, lighter and uses a new sole unit taken from the New Balance 860v2.
New Balance 2002R Colorways
The original 2002 first released in back in 2010 in a classic grey colorway loved by many fans of the brand. Since the 2002R came out in 2020, New Balance have provided us with a number of options, from the retro classic Castlerock Grey to bolder options such as Light Blue and the 'Year of the Ox'.
New Balance 2002R Collabs
Being such a sought after shoe, the 2002R is bound to see a number of collaborations. Salehe Bembury created an Antelope Canyon inspired take on the shoe, making use of various materials and textures. The result was the New Balance 2002R “Peace Be The Journey”. Bembury is also working on another iteration of the 2002R, this time being inspired by water.
Korean streetwear brand thisisneverthat also had a well-received collab on the shoe, releasing two colorways in black and white.
