Japanese sportswear label ASICS will forever be revered for it’s forward thinking technology, distinctive silhouettes and the iconic tiger stripe branding. Founded by Kihachiro Onitsuka in 1949, Onitsuka soon changed it’s name to ASICS, an acronym for the Latin expression “Anima Sana In Corpore Sano” (“You should pray for a healthy mind in a healthy body”).
This is a mantra that that brand would go on to live by, specialising in running sneakers and apparel, yet their lifestyle range is not to be overlooked.
With classic silhouettes such as the GEL-LYTE III & GEL-LYTE IV sitting alongside the SAGA, KAYANO and many more. The brand was revitalised in the noughties through a string of collaborations with sneaker heavyweights.
Ronnie Fieg put his spin on the GEL-LYTE III to create the famous ‘Salmon Toe’, ‘ECP’ and ‘Volcano’ while AFEW made the iconic ‘Koi’.
