The New Balance 574 is one of the greatest sneakers to ever launch from the United States heritage label, and it's really not hard to see why. Originally launched in 1988, the New Balance 574 was the brainchild of Jim Davis, who acquired the label back in 1972 on the same day as the famous Boston Marathon. A runner himself, Davis was a chairman at the brand before taking ownership and is solely responsible to the brand's rise to mainstream success. Before he took over, the New Balance Arch Support Company (as it was known then) was owned by William J. Riley and focused solely on creating technical arch supports.
After taking over, Jim Davis began to produce New Balance shoes with unique model numbers instead of naming them, with the number referring to whether the shoe was built for speed, stability or arch support points. The 574 eventually launched in 1988 as a new shoe to the roster, and was a technical running shoe. The comfort and flexible arch support featured across the design quickly made these New Balance classics just as popular off the tracks as they were as athletic footwear. While the 574 wasn't the first shoe to do this, it was definitely one of the more influential offerings. New Balance sneakers quickly shot to fame within the fashion industry and became a staple sneaker choice for those in the know. New Balance have manufacturing facilities both the United Kingdom and the USA, New Balance shoes are internationally renowned for their incredibly high quality.
The New Balance 574 is still one of the most popular models in the family today, with the pair currently available in hundreds of different colorways. The trainers are ideal for matching with all sorts of outfits, while the ankle collar and New Balance arch supports make them comfortable enough for everyday wear across the city. While the 574 was the first running shoe from New Balance to make it mainstream, plenty of other silhouettes such as the 990 and the Fresh Foam series are now hugely-popular amongst the masses. The 574 is available for both men and women, and are definitely a purchase that you won't regret.
