Action Bronson just announced his first ever signature New Balance. Having worked on 12 different New Balance collaborations to date, the people over at NB have finally granted him his ultimate wish, his own signature shoe.
Taking to his infamously named bambambaklava instagram account, the artist said, ““I WANTED TO GIVE YOU A FIRST LOOK AT SOMETHING I’M VERY PROUD OF AND A LONG TIME IN THE MAKING. I PRESENT TO YOU MY SIGNATURE SNEAKER THE *BAKLAVA* DESIGNED - 2811. THIS PROJECT IS MAGIC. TO BE ABLE TO ADD MY OWN NUMBER TO THE NB BRAND IS A GREAT FEELING. THE LEGACY WILL LIVE ON FOREVER. STAY TUNED.” Of course Bronson could only make this type of announcement using all caps.

This comes off the back of Ronnie Fieg’s recent signature New Balance news, with Kith dropping a New Balance 2011. Given the brand’s history of the numbering system and its link to footwear technology (the higher the number = the higher the running tech), is this New Balance telling us that Bronson’s 2811 is more tech heavy than Kith’s 2011? It’s unlikely, but we’ll only know once more photos come out.
Another more conspiratorial take on the two new signature New Balances, is that the 2011 and 2811 could be a hint at more signature silhouettes to come. Perhaps the brand has been working hard the past two years with its top 10 collaborators to drop a series of silhouettes from 2011 through to 2911, with Bronson being the second partner to go public with his 2811. You heard it here first!
Taking a look at the NB 2811, from the rear angle it looks like Bronson has opted for the tooling from the recent NB 2010, although nodding to classic like the 990v3 and 993 with a bronze and grey heel. On the upper, the palette is typical of Bronson’s previous work, with neon accents, dual coloured rope laces and orange details sprinkled throughout.
The biggest addition comes on the tongue, where “BAKLAVA” is embroidered in a dark green, making his first signature sneaker official. No doubt for Bronson this moment has been a long time coming, with photos from his youth showing that the young chef-turned-rapper stayed rocking the New Balance.
