We hate to be the bearer of bad news, but if you were looking to get your hands on last year's viral Stüssy 8-Ball Fleece (or any other of the brand's previous releases), you're firmly out of luck. In a conversation held in an Instagram comment section, Shawn Stüssy has seemingly refuted any ideas of Stüssy comebacks this season, adding that re-releases are, in fact, "lame."
While the conversation wasn't directly in reference to the 8-Ball Fleece, it does allude to the idea that no previous products will see a reissue. In reply to a comment about a hat design, Shawn notes that "designs were meant for the moment of which they were created," and it's "not about making more new ones for the money grab."
While this does attest to Shawn's passion as a creator, there will understandably be a small disappointed portion of Stüssy's audience, especially when you consider the brand's current popularity and scarcity of some of its products.
With that said, the statement does shine a light on the idea of "money grabs" in the streetwear industry and fashion in general. While the old saying might tell you, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it," there are arguments to be made about how reissues and rereleases limit brands from a creative perspective for the sake of financial gain.
In the same comment, Shawn encourages people to "go out and find the vintage one (product) that tugs at your heart and shows you're more invested in the game," but with some resale prices commanding eye-watering sums, this might be easier said than done.
In other fashion news, Corteiz presents a selection of fresh winter-ready styles.
