Well, well, well. What do we have here then? Just a couple of weeks after adidas addressed its latest financial results, the internet rumour mill is saying that the 3-Stripes may have settled its worries, with help from none other than Kanye West.
Of course, sneaker fans will already be aware that the brand terminated its deal with Ye back in October of last year, after what had been a turbulent few months for the partnership. Over the summer, Ye had accused adidas of copying his designs, and he then went on to accuse the company of inventing Yeezy day without his permission. Then, there was obviously Ye’s very controversial Yeezy show at PFW, along with all the hate speech and antisemitic remarks that followed.
After ending the deal, adidas announced that the Yeezy brand was to end as we knew it, and took down the Yeezy Supply store. Shareholder calls and meetings also suggested that the remaining Yeezy stock would then be sold under the adidas brand, omitting all Yeezy branding from the styles. Now, it's suggested that a deal has been reached between the two parties in order to clear the rest of the Yeezy inventory, though the full details at this point are unclear.
Having recently revealed the full extent of the costs of sitting on its Yeezy stock, this is a big step towards the German giant getting back on track. Will you continue to buy Yeezy products? Or is this a chapter of streetwear history that’s best left closed?
Up next, could Pharrell's appointment at Louis Vuitton mean an adidas collab is imminent?
