Designer sneakers are a rite of passage for just about every high fashion brand, but it's rare that they tend to resonate with sneakerheads and those within the streetwear scene. The Balenciaga Triple S was of course one of them, but another that’s seemed to earn its spot within the wider culture is Louis Vuitton’s LV Trainer - designed by none other than Virgil Abloh.
Having taken the sneaker scene by storm through his collaborations with Nike, it's no surprise that Abloh had some grasp on what exactly it was that would tick sneakerheads’ boxes. The basketball-inspired silhouette became a staple for the French fashion house, and now, even after Abloh’s death, looks set to play an important part in its line-up going forward.
As fashion continues its ‘puffy’ trajectory (oversized shapes and proportions have been all over the runways this season - a common theme during uncertain economic times) LV has revealed a ‘Maxi” version of the LV Trainer silhouette, which focuses on exaggerated proportions. Its usual two-tone look remains only this time the model comes complete with chunky midsoles and stacked rubber bottoms, as well as oversized panelling, thick laces and exaggerated tongues, and a series of playful charms designed to decorate the lace unit.
The style is available to shop now in the US, retailing for a cool $1.7K. Look for it to drop in the UK market soon, and in the meantime, could Pharrell’s appointment at LV mean that an adidas collab is on the cards for the future?
