A 1985 Air Jordan 1 “Chicago” in decent shape can set you back £2,000 on the resale market; chump change compared to what Sotheby’s has lined up for this unworn player sample with Michael Jordan’s signature on the tongue!
Their bet? A mammoth $80,000 (around £63,000). That's gonna take more than a kidney!
Just like Jordan Brand, the famous auction house is celebrating 40 years of MJ magic with a slam dunk of a collection.
The Genesis lineup has some extremely unique kicks, like a pair of game worn Jordan 8 Playoffs from the '93 NBA Finals and the Air Jordan 7 Cardinal that MJ rocked during his historic 64 point game against Shaq’s Orlando Magic.
Sotheby’s insists this Air Jordan 1 “Chicago” sample is unworn, and the sizing checks out with what the GOAT laced up on game days. The left shoe is a size 13, while the right (complete with his signature, no less) is a 13.5. There's no word on where these shoes have been hiding for the past 40 years, but whoever’s been babysitting them deserves a standing ovation. Just look at them! They're in pristine condition, considering they're 4 decades old.
The images show slight hints of oxidation. And that Jordan signature? It’s so crisp it could moonlight as a font.
If you’ve got bags of cash to blow, the Sotheby’s Genesis auction will be open from 2nd to 16th December. The signed Jordan 1 “Chicago” is expected to sell for $80,000-$120,000.
And if you just want a sneaker in a similar colour combination, why not opt for the Air Jordan 1 High OG Chicago Lost and Found? These won't drain your life savings, and you will actually wear them without having a heart attack over a few creases.
