Whilst the fashion world continues to mourn the late Virgil Abloh, there’s always been speculation as to who will take over his place at the helm of Louis Vuitton Men’s. Now, the rumour mill has been sent into overdrive after Vogue Paris reported that the CEO of the Franch fashion house, Michael Burke, was spotted sitting front row at Martine Rose’s SS23 show at London Fashion Week, leading fashion fans to suspect that the British-American designer and Nike collaborator could be in line for the job.
The show saw Martine Rose showcase her most recent Nike collaboration alongside the rest of the collection, but her eponymous brand has had a cult following since she started it in 2007. Over the past couple of years, Rose has risen to the spotlight, with her collaborative takes on the Nike’s Air Monarch and Shox silhouettes, and special-edition England shirt earning her wider acknowledgment. She was also shortlisted for the LVMH prize in 2017 and nominated for the British Fashion Council’s Menswear Designer of the Year award in 2017 and 2018.
The rumours continued when Rose was later spotted at Matthew Williams’ ALYX show, where the ALYX and Givenchy designer also sent a Nike collaboration down the runway. Given LVMH’s connection with the Swoosh brand by way of Virgil Abloh, it’s not a stretch to say that they could be looking to see what other collaborators have to offer – the Louis Vuitton fashion universe is extensive, after all.
Neither Rose nor Burke have responded to the rumours at this point, however, it has seemed to shush the previous rumours that Kanye could be taking over. The luxury label’s next menswear show is set to take place in Paris on June 23rd, so be sure to stay tuned for more info as it comes in!
