It's been over six months since we first caught sight of the Familia x Nike SB Dunk Low "First Avenue", and as its potential release looms closer and closer, we're now taking a more detailed look at the upcoming collaboration. Made in partnership with the Minneapolis-based skate store, it pays homage to the city’s legendary venue located on 701 First Avenue North.
Featuring an all-black upper with brick detailing that mimics the outside of the establishment, this Dunk Low features an ultra premium construction that is sure to stand the test of time. The "Voltage Purple" accents found throughout allude to Minneapolis' very own Prince, who performed at First Avenue multiple times. The shade is also a nod to his 1984 album Purple Rain, which is ranked by Rolling Stone as number two on its list of the 100 Best Albums of the 1980s and number 8 on its list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
A star graphic can be found embroidered on the heel in white while the toebox perforations and rubber outsole have all been peppered with stars, harkening to the 500 stars on the building’s exterior. A checkered insole is an ode to the tiling within First Avenue, and to round it all off, the Nike Swoosh has been given a reflective finish so you can show these off both in the day and in the night.
The Familia x Nike SB Dunk Low "Prince" will drop exclusively at skate shops, with many of them opening up for local residents on December 9th. Let us know what you think of this star-studded collaboration, and while you're here, you might as well keep your focus on the Polaroid x Nike SB Dunk Low!
