With the Olympic Games 2020 Tokyo just around the corner, images of Nike’s innovative, functional trainers have started to be release and so has the brand’s new Nike "Space Hippie" collection. The brand’s most sustainable design to date, the collection features four sleek silhouettes: the Space Hippie 1, Space Hippie 2, Space Hippie 3 and, you guessed it, the Space Hippie 4.
Each and every design is crafted from scrap materials found on factory floors and the range boasts Nike’s lowest ever carbon footprint score thanks to a new sustainable production method. At least 85% of each of these shoes is made from a new Flyknit composition labelled rPoly. This ultra-sustainable material is crafted from recycled plastic bottles and old T-shirt scraps which work in perfect harmony to deliver a fabric that’s rough and ready.
The midsole in the Space Hippie pairs are made from Crater Foam which uses 15% Nike Grind rubber and gives the sole its flecked appearance. Combined with recycled ZoomX foam to deliver a lightweight, highly functional feel that doesn’t sacrifice functionality.
The Nike Space Hippie 4 is exclusive to women’s sizing while the other three are set to drop in unisex sizes. The Nike Space Hippie 1, 2 and 3 is due to release on the Nike SNEAKRS app in a couple of months’ time, but the Space Hippie 4 won’t drop until later in the summer. We’re not sure yet how much these will set you back, but keep it locked into The Sole Supplier for more info on this drop and more Nike releases and restocks.
