Back in 1979, adidas introduced the first ever SPEZIAL sneaker made specifically for elite level handball players. Since then, the line has been adopted by numerous subcultures and the subject of countless trends. Now, forty years later, we're getting a look at the latest SPZL collection, simply dubbed 'Drop 2'.
One of their most vibrant selections yet, the Three Stripes have taken three of their most iconic silhouettes and have reinterpreted them for a modern audience. Continuing on from the Original collector series, 'Drop 2' pays homage to the culture and style of the city of London, as well as renowned adidas collector, Robert Brooks.
The highlight of the pack is, hands down, the SILVERBIRCH SPZL, which is inspired by the adidas Denver sneaker. Named after the area in London where Brooks grew up, the shoe is painted in a striking palette of blue and orange. Crafted from an ultra breathable mesh, suede overlays hit the toe box and heel, packing a premium punch. A grippy rubber outsole also features down below, making these perfect for every occasion.
Next stop we have the GLXY SPZL, which is a one to one re-issue on the vintage adidas Galaxy shoe. Arriving in a pristine white palette with shimmering silver accents throughout, the three "plugs"; on the midsole can be manually adjusted, so sneakerheads can customise these to their heart's content.
Finally, 'Drop 2' also unveils the EARLHAM SPZL, a hybrid sneaker that's a descendent of the '80s cult classic Gaea 950. Dressed in a beautiful white leather, perforations at the sidewalls and toe box give the shoe a classic yet contemporary aesthetic, while gold foil "EARLHAM"; branding graces the laterals, completing the show stopping look.
The adidas SPEZIAL Drop 2 collection is set to drop on June 21st at adidas and select stockists. One of the best SPZL ranges ever made, you really don't want to miss out on this! Let us know which pair you'll be copping, and while you're here, be sure to take a look at the full adidas sneaker range!
