Clarks’ classic Wallabee is pretty much as close as we sneakerheads get to more dressy footwear, so imagine how excited we were when we heard that our fave gal Aleali May had a Clarks collab in the making. Teaming up with the British brand under the guise of her label, MAYDE, May has given the boot a cool, California-style update complete with autumn’s hottest fabric: Corduroy.
Swapping out the Wallabee Boot’s signature suede build for laid-back cord, each colourway takes on a washed-out aesthetic that evokes Cali cool, by pulling inspiration from sunset beach walks in May’s home state. Cut in a high-cut shape, the MAYDE x Clarks Wallabee Boot retains its usual features including its moccasin-style look and signature crepe sole, with all signs pointing to this pair as a future classic.
Speaking on the collab, May notes: “This collaboration references many of my designs and uses corduroy, a staple California fabric. Wallabees have always been a statement within hip hop fashion, and one of the many reasons why I love them.
I decided to add an LA spin to the Wallabees to mark a celebratory moment for my first line, MAYDE. For this campaign, I carefully chose individuals like myself who are doing big things for my community and who inspire me to keep going!”
The Aleali May MAYD x Clarks Wallabee is set to drop in dual-gender sizing, spanning sizes 3-12. Dropping from the 28th of July, pairs are available online and at Clarks Originals stores, as well as retailers like END. Clothing and Offspring.
