The ASICS GT-2160 first hit the shelves back in 2011, and it's always delivered as a solid running shoe. Plus, you can pick it up in countless colour schemes, and at just £125, it’s pretty kind to your wallet. You'd think ASICS would just leave a good thing alone, wouldn't you? Well, you'd be wrong.
The Japanese sportswear giant has gone and transformed the GT-2160 into a sandal, calling it the GT-2160 Breeze. With the summer sun baking us all mercilessly, we think this sneaker/sandal hybrid might just be the thing you need to keep your feet feeling fresh. ASICS has given the GT-2160 some serious upgrades. It's arriving in three colour combinations: 'Pure Silver,' 'Black,' and 'Illusion Blue.' From a distance, it still carries that familiar trainer appearance, but get a bit closer, and you'll see it’s a completely different animal. The original mesh upper has been ditched, replaced with a stretchy, sock-like neoprene bootie. You'll also find a series of cut outs on the front and back, which gives it that airy, open feel you want from a sandal. By the way, you can stay up to date with all the latest sneaker news by downloading The Sole Supplier app.
You'll find tumbled leather on the side panels, which is also where Asics places its distinctive Tiger Stripes logo. Pull tabs are included on both the tongue and heel, making it easy to slip on and off without any fuss. And instead of standard laces, ASICS have gone with a toggle switch system, giving it a practical, outdoorsy edge.
But it’s not all new. The sole unit on this sandal version of the GT-2160 is exactly what you get on the original trainer. It's packed with super soft foam, and ASICS kept the Gel technology for that extra bit of cushioning and spring in your step. All of that sits on a grippy rubber outsole, so you'll stay sure footed.
This new GT-2160 sandal is expected to drop on 26th July in three colours, for £125. Make sure you hit that bell icon for your best chance at snagging these for retail.
