The adidas Adizero EVO SL ATR takes everything runners loved about the original and reworks it for winter. Now your favourite 3-Stripes hybrid shoe has a rugged update that you can truly depend on, we're certainly leaning on the ATR to get us through the winter months.
And while it's built for performance, its lifestyle edge is still strong. With a sharp silhouette and clean colourways, the ATR fits neatly between your rotation of terrace trainers and Y2K mesh steppers.
This isn’t a complete reinvention, it's more like a winter-ready remix. The EVO SL ATR retains the full-length Lightstrike Pro midsole found in adidas’ top-tier racers, meaning you still get that soft, springy, energy-loaded feel. But the upgrades are all about survival through soggy miles.
Up top, the ATR swaps the airy race-day upper for a woven ripstop mesh that’s water repellent and more structured. It shrugs off drizzle and spray far better than the standard SL, and comes with a wraparound mudguard for added protection. There’s a semi-gusseted tongue for lockdown and a new sawtooth lace design that actually stays tied, an essential update after all the laces-related complaints on the standard edition.
Not every runner needs a winter-ready workhorse, but if your routes regularly bounce between pavements, park trails, and wet canal paths, this one’s built for you. The EVO SL ATR isn’t trying to be a technical trail shoe, nor is it here to replace your carbon-plated race day pick. Instead, it slots into that sweet spot: a superfoam trainer with enough grip and protection to keep you confident when conditions get sketchy.
Also, if you're a fan of the previous EVO SL and fancy a version that can keep your toes warm during the coming winter months, this All Terrain update is built for exactly that reason. Not every one who has flocked to the EVO SL series is a die hard runner, which makes total sense considering how good these look on-feet. Pairing these up with your puffy winter jacket is a combination that we will certainly be adopting!
Underfoot, Continental rubber returns with a twist, using 1.5mm lugs for extra grip. That’s enough to handle wet pavements, leaf-covered park loops and the odd muddy canal path without feeling like a clunky trail shoe. It strikes that sweet spot for mixed winter conditions: stable, secure, but still road-ready.
At around 287g (UK M10), the ATR adds roughly 40–50g over the standard SL, mostly thanks to the beefier outsole and more robust upper. It’s not race-day light, but still feels nimble enough for tempo efforts.
The EVO SL ATR fits slightly longer than the original, but rather than sizing down, we’d recommend sticking true to size. That extra wiggle room in the toe box gives your toes space to splay naturally, especially useful when tackling descents or logging longer miles.
It’s a practical call too, given the fused panelling across the forefoot, which offers added protection but limits flexibility. Keeping TTS allows your foot the movement it needs without sacrificing overall lockdown or comfort.
Now available in “Wonder Sage Ink”, “Putty Grey ” and “Black Night Grey”, the adidas EVO SL ATR drops at £140, just £10 more than the standard model. For runners braving the UK’s damp, unpredictable terrain, this is a clever, confident upgrade.
