It’s been 30 years since Brazilian Formula 1 legend Ayrton Senna tragically passed away at the San Marino Grand Prix; a moment that changed motorsport forever. His death led to major improvements in car and track safety, setting new standards to protect drivers.
This milestone anniversary is a chance to celebrate Senna’s incredible legacy, now highlighted in a new Netflix series about his life and a special tribute from ASICS with custom GEL-Kayano 14 sneakers.
Ayrton Senna wasn’t just a driver; he was a force of nature on four wheels. In just 10 years, he snagged 41 wins, three World Championships, and a permanent spot as one of the all time GOATS. By 2000, the International Motorsports Hall of Fame couldn’t resist making it official. But Senna’s impact goes far beyond racing. Known for his generosity, he donated millions to help underprivileged children in Brazil; a mission his family continues today through the Instituto Ayrton Senna.
To honour his legacy, ASICS teamed up with @sennabrasil to create two special GEL-Kayano 14 designs inspired by Senna’s iconic Lotus and McLaren race cars.
The Lotus version features the bold black and gold John Player Special livery, while the McLaren pair showcases a striking red, white, and black design inspired by Marlboro.
Both sneakers sport green and yellow accents, tipping their hat to Senna’s iconic Brazil helmet; strategically perched on the shoe’s quarter panel to represent the driver’s head in a car. Bonus style points: the McLaren pair rocks Japanese text that spells “Ayrton Senna” on the heel, while the Lotus version dares you to “Seek Your Truth.”
The Ayrton Senna GEL-Kayano 14 sneakers drop in Brazil on 9th December, with a global release on 10th December. Keep it locked on The Sole Supplier for the latest ASICS drops.
