ASICS really knows its way around a floral design on a runner, doesn't it? Historically, we have seen frequent collaborator Cecilie Bahnsen craft these playful versions. They just dropped the GEL-KAYANO 20 in two flower adorned colourways earlier in May, and now ASICS offers a sneak peek at its own in line "Floral Pack," featuring a different silhouette.
Cecilie Bahnsen's work with ASICS immediately shouts "floral," but the Danish designer truly performs, adapting that constant focus and ensuring the energy stays fresh. She delivers it anew with her latest creation on the ASICS GEL-Cumulus 16.
Bahnsen primarily keeps her ironclad partnership with the Japanese brand engaging by hopping from model to model. She has only technically revisited a model once with her ASICS GEL-Terrain MT, although one could reasonably argue the hiking tooling presents a novel step in itself.
She continues that trend, chalking off the GEL-Cumulus 16 and breathing new life into a 2014 neutral runner. Bahnsen introduces graphic vines and flowers between its synthetic base and new glossy overlays. Each hardware note executes the central theme of femininity versus masculinity in this trainer. She further explores the masculine aspect with an outdoorsy pull closure. Of the three colourways on offer, two in "Glacier Grey" and “Black”; present appropriate, current aesthetics, while the "Ivory/Black" option lands a more adventurous overall palette.
Notably, ASICS launches this as the first release under its newly minted "Signature Series" collaborative banner. That announcement has us expecting more GEL-Cumulus 16 releases in the coming season, likely with additional collaborators brought into the mix.
We currently expect all three pairs to hit shelves on 27th June through ASICS and select retailers. These will likely sell for a bit more than the model's previous price point of £170.
