Following the launch of its digital and physical Fornite gaming capsule two weeks ago, it seems Demna Gvasalia's Balenciaga is still at the height of its campaign obscurity. For the brand's spring/summer 2022 collection reveal Balenciaga has joined forces with American cartoon sitcom The Simpsons to produce a one-off episode.
The 10 minute short opens with a clip of Homer marking the calendar with Marge's birthday and then seemingly drinking away the seasons in his hammock. In his panic, he convinces Demna Gvasalia to create marge a dress and, in turn, sparks events that lead to a Springfield fashion show.
Popular characters such as Homer, Bart, Moe, Lisa and Waylon Smithers all grace the catwalk in a range of past Balenciaga styles in front of an animated audience. Within this audience, Vogue Editor Anna Wintour makes a guest appearance with several vocal lines featured within the script.
To showcase the episode, Balenciaga took over a theatre in Place du Chatelet. On the red carpet, celebs such as Cardi B, Lewis Hamilton, Offset and Elliot Page were invited to pose in front of photographers while unknowingly being live-streamed inside to those already in the venue.
