For practical reasons, animal print has been a fashion staple since prehistoric times (turns out the Flintstones depiction of Fred with a sheath of printed fabric draped like a dress was fairly accurate). Some historic communities even believed that wearing animal print granted the wearer a semblance of the creature's power, while others, including Roman emperors and Egyptian pharaohs, branded it a status symbol. Legend has it that Roman emperor Honorius even banned his court from wearing fur to ensure its exclusivity.
It's also had its fare share of pop culture moments. Kate Moss made leopard print a staple of her indie sleaze era, Tyler the Creator rocked up to the 2018 Grammys with leopard-print hair, and celebrities from Gigi Hadid to Rihanna have stepped out brandishing zebra stripes. And that's not to mention the doyenne of leopard print, Eastenders' Kat Slater.
Now, animal print is in its sneaker era. From deer to cow to zebra, brands from adidas to Reebok offer up enough animal print to compete with London Zoo. (Most of it fake, of course.)
Below, we've rounded up some of the most covetable animal print sneakers to cop now.
