Over the past few years, sports shorts have evolved from gym mats and running tracks to an everyday staple for both men and women (in part thanks to Paul Mescal, who single-handedly disseminated Gaelic Athletic Association style across London and the US). They’ve been spotted on everyone from Hailey Bieber to Zoë Kravitz. The sprinter shorts can be dressed up with heels, á la Kravitz, or with sneakers and a baseball cap for an athleisure look.

The shorts in question vary in length but are generally loose-fit and athletic in style, often sporting parallel stripes along the side. Though the pair that springs to mind is likely nylon and dark or neon in colour, brands have been putting a creative spin on the style over the past few years, rendering them in fabrics from crochet to used fish nets (see Nike's sustainable offering).
