CNCPTS has officially announced the highly anticipated New Balance 1000 “Míle” collaboration, set to launch on March 14th. This design draws inspiration from the legendary $1,000 Treasury Note from 1890, famously nicknamed “The Grand Watermelon” for its distinctive zero design. This rare piece of currency was later auctioned for an astounding $3.29 million.
The name “Míle” pays homage to the Irish Gaelic word for “thousand,” adding a cultural layer to the release.
Deon Point, CNCPTS’ creative director, teased the collaboration on Instagram, showcasing the CNCPTS x New Balance 1000 “Míle”. The sneaker’s vibrant green and hot pink colorway reflects the aesthetic of the historic Treasury Note, with the pink symbolizing the note’s red seal, a feature that enhances its rarity. The design also incorporates a nod to a Chicago bank heist, where dye packs were used to mark stolen bills, tying into themes of money and security.
Originally launched in 1999, the New Balance 1000 features a bold futuristic silhouette, now updated with premium materials and cutting edge performance elements. The reimagined version includes inverted mesh overlays, ABZORB cushioning for superior comfort, and a Stability Web midfoot shank for enhanced support.
The green tones are also a nod to Chicago’s famous St. Patrick’s Day tradition of dyeing the river green, a celebration that’s been around since 1962.
The CNCPTS x New Balance 1000 “Míle” will be available from 14th March at CNCPTS on a first come, first served release.
