Demna’s Balenciaga is known for its pop culture commentary and streetwear-influenced styles, and there’s no doubt that up until the end of last year, the brand was riding the heights of its relevance. In 2022, Balenciaga dropped a collaborative capsule with Yeezy and GAP, and then early rumours (and a Fashion Week appearance) teased the idea that a Supreme collab was on the way - streetwear’s biggest designer mash-up since the skate brand joined forces with Louis Vuitton. Now, although the release is no longer set to go ahead, it looks like images of the collection have finally surfaced, thanks to Instagram account dondasplace.
Last year, disaster struck as Balenciaga was accused of using inappropriate props in a couple of campaigns. The series of events caused the Spanish fashion house to stop and take stock of what was happening before issuing an apology, and presenting a paired-back, clothing-focussed show in Paris just last month. As expected, future collabs were reported to be cancelled, including the upcoming collection with Supreme, which was set to drop in spring 2023.
Now, we’re able to take a peek at what could have been, as nine of the rumoured looks from the collab have surfaced online. Blending Demna’s sense of humour and signature silhouettes with Supreme’s street-style heritage, the collection includes a number of oversized pieces, with some bearing Balenciaga branding in Supreme’s box logo style.
Take a peek at the collection right here, and let us know what you think of the looks! And, while you're here, why not check out Supreme's new collab with UNDERCOVER...
