Dickies Size Guide: Does Dickies Clothing Fit True to Size?

Sitting up there with Carhartt as one of the biggest original workwear brands, Dickies have surpassed their humble status and become quite the streetwear darling over recent years. Once a manufacturer of military uniform, the Dickies brand moved into workwear in the mid 19th century, providing work trousers, jackets and boiler suits to America’s blue-collar workforce.

Now, the brand has managed to gain popularity with a new demographic, and their streetwear focussed styles are now stocked in retailers such as ASOS. Having become a must-have brand for streetwear fans everywhere, if you don’t have any Dickies in your wardrobe, you’re missing out. If you are shopping for your first pair of Dickies trousers, or a Dickies top or jacket, it can be hard to know what Dickies sizing is like and whether Dickies fits true to size. Luckily for you, we’ve asked around the office and pulled together this handy Dickies size guide to help you work out exactly how your Dickies garms should fit.

Fit: For the most part, Dickies does fit true to size. Dickies do say that if you are between sizes, go for the bigger size, and it’s worth remembering that the trouser styles don’t have a lot of stretch in them. Because of their heritage as a workwear brand, a lot of Dickies styles (like their tops and jackets) are cut in a relaxed, almost boxy fit, without being too baggy. The trousers tend to have a regular rise and a straight leg, and some of their cargo styles have an elasticated waistband.

Comfort: Dickies are extremely comfortable. Thanks to their workwear heritage, Dickies clothes are built with the idea of people spending a lot of time in them, so have to be comfortable to reflect this.

Styling: Dickies go best with a casual outfit. The relaxed fit allows for you to be able to pretty much mix and match them as you please. Their work trousers and cargos look great with vest tops, and the boxy tees are also the perfect accompaniment to the trousers too. The Dickies Work Jacket is an absolute classic, and looks great with cargos, joggers or jeans.

Dickies trousers fit pretty true to size, but it's worth bearing in mind that there isn’t a lot of stretch in them when you’re trying to pull them on. They do make some cargo styles with an elasticated waist, however, so these are definitely worth considering if the standard trousers are a problem.

Once they’re on, Dickies are super comfortable. They can feel a little stiff at first, but read on for our top tips when it comes to breaking Dickies in.

In the summer I will usually team my Dickies trousers with a simple tee and some SB Dunks, but they go just as well with a matching jacket and some AF1s in the winter.

Dickies trousers may feel stiff at first, but a little wear goes a long way. You could wear them around the house for an hour or two to stretch them out, but if you can't wait you can chuck them straight in the wash with some washing powder or fabric softener. Some people even swear by screwing up their Dickies pants as soon as they get them, as this helps to break down the bonds that make the fabric stiff. However, unless you want to go out with creased trousers, you might wanna give them a wash and iron before wearing them.

I always go for my true size in Dickies tops. Most of them are cut in a relaxed fit for a slouchy, boxy look which I love!

Dickies tees are really comfortable, and the quality is great too! Because they’re made from cotton they’re really breathable, so they make great layering pieces.

Dickies tops are the perfect casual layer. I tend to lean towards a boxier fit tee that I’ll style with trousers or jeans depending on my mood.

I feel like the Dickies jackets fit true to size, but you could always size up if an oversized look is your thing. I don't really tend to do this in workwear styles, as feel like they tend to have a boxier shape than most contemporary jackets.

I always feel like comfort isn’t quite as essential with outerwear pieces, but Dickies are always cut well and have vents for added movement so they’re not restrictive at all.

I team my Dickies jackets with jeans or matching work pants. They’re a really relaxed style so I feel like that kind of vibe suits them best.

Again, Dickies women's trousers fit pretty true to size - they're just a little stiff to break in. However, if you're looking to hop on the TikTok trend and wear your Dickies trousers with the waistband turned down, we recommend you go up one or two sizes to allow for the right fit as the waistband will need to fit over your hips to stay put!

Like jeans, Dickies women's trousers are measured by waist size rather than traditional women's sizes. You can find your perfect size by measuring your natural waist and your inseam length.

Unless you're trying to achieve a particular aesthetic, there's really no need to size up or down in Dickies. Just remember that trousers may feel a little small or stiff to start with, but they probably just need a little softening up.
