Nike’s dotSWOOSH platform dives deep into the nostalgia of early 3D gaming with the Air Max 1 Low Poly, a sneaker inspired by classic low resolution graphics.
The sneaker’s look is equally captivating. Light Chocolate brown suede mudguards and quarters are paired with a bold University Red Swoosh and Hem accents, creating a nostalgic yet modern look. Dubbed “Big Head Origins,” the design name further underscores its connection to the iconic video game.
Expanding on the.SWOOSH Air Max 1 “Low Poly” collection, this design pays homage to the sharp, geometric style reminiscent of early 3D gaming’s polygonal visuals. Drawing inspiration from the beloved Super Nintendo classic, this Air Max 1 features design elements that nod to Donkey Kong Country’s distinctive style.
The insoles display “DS” coins, a clever reinterpretation of the DK coins scattered throughout Donkey Kong Country 2. Additional playful details include a low resolution banana graphic and a pixelated logo on the tongue, solidifying its tribute to the game.
While an official release date hasn’t been announced, the “Big Head Origins” Air Max 1 is expected to drop in Spring/Summer 2025. Stay tuned as Nike continues to blur the lines between gaming nostalgia and sneaker culture.
