You'd be hard pressed to find a sneaker partnership quite like BAPE x adidas. Since 2003, the power duo have teamed up on some of the hottest kicks in the game. Combining the Three Stripes' innovation with A Bathing Ape's unmistakable fashion aesthetic and progressive Japanese craftsmanship, they've teamed up on sneakers that span from snowboarding to streetwear, and everything in between.
A legendary collaboration like no other, we're going to take a look at every single BAPE x adidas sneaker that's dropped over the past sixteen years. BAPE x adidas Super Ape Star & Super Ape Skate
Sneakerheads first got a taste of the legendary collaboration back in August 2003. Building on the iconic Superstar silhouette, the BAPE x adidas Super Ape Star and Super Ape Skate were both promoted under the slogan “The Respect is Mutual” and were extremely limited. In fact, a snakeskin version of the Super Ape Skate was also created and was exclusive to friends and family of the brand, with just one hundred pairs in the world.
BAPE x adidas Superstar 80s 'B-Sides'
After an eight year hiatus, the power duo reunited once again for the highly coveted BAPE x adidas Superstar 80s 'B-Sides' in August 2011. Again building on the Superstar silhouette, the shoe is crafted from a light grey suede with navy leather accents throughout. Along the side “TRÈFLE EN CHEVRONS ET BAPE” text makes an appearance, as well as a military-inspired Ape Head motif and gold foil detailing.
BAPE x UNDEFEATED x adidas Consortium ZX 5000 & Campus 80s
In April 2013, NIGO's label tapped UNDEFEATED for a two sneaker pack with the Three Stripes. Comprising of the BAPE x UNDEFEATED x adidas Consortium ZX 5000 & Campus 80s, both of which were actually delayed by a year, both shoes are painted in a light green colour scheme with co-branded detailing appearing throughout. Interestingly enough, the ZX 5000 featured France-inspired Three Stripe branding along the side.
BAPE x UNDEFEATED x adidas Consortium Superstar 80s
Two years later on April 2015, the threesome released the BAPE x UNDEFEATED x adidas Consortium Superstar 80s and it was met with critical acclaim. Comprising of three distinct colourways, including a white version, a black edition, and a blue 1ST CAMO iteration, all three feature "UNDFTD BAPE"; branding along the lateral side panel as well as the Japanese street imprint's iconic Ape Head insignia in gold foil.
BAPE x adidas NMD R1
With the dawn of the legendary Nomad silhouette, A Bathing Ape teamed up with the Three Stripes for two of the most sought after sneakers of all time. In November 2016, the BAPE x adidas NMD R1 was born and it generated an unprecedented amount of hype. Dressed from heel to toe in a neoprene-type material, BAPE's 1ST CAMO pattern is present throughout the upper while a full length Boost midsole sits underfoot. To this day, the black version still fetches around £400 in resale, and the green one will cost you up to £800 - if you're lucky.
BAPE x NEIGHBORHOOD x adidas Superstar Boost
Following their wildly popular NMD collab, BAPE and adidas tapped NEIGHBORHOOD for the BAPE x NEIGHBORHOOD x adidas Superstar Boost in February 2016. Fusing a classic silhouette with contemporary technologies, this shoe was dressed in a buttery smooth suede and was finished off with contrasting black leather Three Stripes and co-branded detailing throughout.
BAPE x adidas Dame 4
One whole year later on February 2017, NIGO's label partnered up with Damian Lillard's signature Dame 4 for the first ever BAPE x adidas basketball shoe with the BAPE x adidas Dame 4. Dropping in three colourways, BAPE's iconic shark motif hits the midsole while "WGM"; letting features on the ankle. The red version was actually exclusive to friends and family, so you'll be paying top dollar for a pair of those.
BAPE x adidas 3ST.002
In November 2018, the power duo teamed up for their first ever snowboarding silhouette with the BAPE x adidas 3ST.002. Dropping alongside a slew of co-branded apparel, the sock-like sneaker is painted in a stealthy black hue with a contrasting white 1ST CAMO pattern throughout. In fact, this was actually infused with Xeno technology so its shines extremely bright even in the dark.
BAPE x NEIGHBORHOOD x adidas POD-S3.1 & NMD TS1
For the first time ever, BAPE took on the POD-S3.1 and NMD TS1 silhouettes in January 2019 with the BAPE x NEIGHBORHOOD x adidas POD-S3.1 and NMD TS1. A surprise drop, the iconic shark motif hits the lateral side of the former, while the latter features an eye-catching tribal pattern and a toggle lacing system that's made for the hustle and bustle of Tokyo streets. Both models sit atop full length Boost midsole for unbeatable comfort.
BAPE x adidas Ultra Boost
Who can forget the BAPE x adidas Ultra Boost? Released on February 2019 just ahead of of Super Bowl LIII, these highly coveted creps dropped alongside a slew of American football apparel, as well as a pair of adiZERO 5-Star Cleats. Given a 1ST CAMO makeover, both colourways were extremely limited with the black version dropping exclusively at adidas. Crafted from Primeknit, patriotic Ape Head detailing features throughout, emphasising the collab's inspiration.
