What a year it's been for the sneaker industry. With high heat release dropping after high heat release, Footwear News has just announced their "Shoe Of The Year" at the annual FNAA. An event that's been going on since 1986 - long before most of you were born - the results honestly weren't too surprising.
In the past, Footwear News has awarded the prestigious title to models such as the classic Dr Martens 1460 and the legendary Off-White x Air Jordan 1. This year, however, they have bestowed the honour to the Nike Dunk due to its "over 30 years of history within the world of sports, fashion and skateboarding, solidifying itself as a streetwear staple."
A silhouette that quite literally took over the game this year, it made its debut back in 1985 but rose to prominence this year thanks to fashion icons like Travis Scott. From StrangeLove Skateboards to Ben & Jerry's, the most expensive sneakers on StockX right now are all Dunk Lows, and that says a lot about its sheer popularity amongst the community.
Elsewhere, Salehe Bembury was given "Designer Of The Year", Cardi B was named "Style Influencer Of The Year", while both Birkenstock and Crocs were awarded "Brand Of The Year."
What do you think of Footwear News's choice for "Shoe Of The Year"? Would you have picked any differently? If so, let us know which sneaker you would've chosen instead, and in related news, the Supreme-Inspired Nike SB Dunk Low "Stars" is dropping early next year!
