In 2021, New Balance unexpectedly appointed Teddy Santis as its creative director for the brand's Made in USA division, and since then, it's fair to say interest has piqued quite considerably. For those unfamiliar with Mr Santis, he's the creative mind behind surging New York-based luxury streetwear brand Aimé Leon Dore, a label currently sending waves through the industry. Despite the success with ALD, it seems Teddy is passionate to mirror the same prosperity at New Balance.
Under the guise of Santis, New Balance Made in USA looks to keep the DNA of the brand concrete while splicing it with fresh concepts and contemporary design. While primarily known for its numerous iterations of the New Balance 990 shape, Made in USA also boasts one of the most concrete selections of essential wear available on the market.
While the lookbook might suggest we've seen a vast range of clothing so far, it's actually comprised of a mix of New Balance and Aimé Leon Dore. The reality is, we've only seen five apparel products available under Teddy's watch up until now, but somehow it still feels like an ample offering.
Earlier this year in April, we were treated to a hoodie, sweatshirt, joggers, long sleeve, and a tee, each bearing the brand's classic red and white outlined "NB" logo. Each piece arrives made from domestically sourced fabrics, offering a weighty GSM count and the drape to match. Four colours are on offer - "Natural Indigo," "Athletic Grey," "Oatmeal Heather," and "Black," with the joggers and hoodies each displaying a luxe-styled beige drawstring.
As it stands, these essentials are currently available for purchase on New Balance's website, with each piece guaranteed to tide us over until a new selection launches. So, why not give your essential layers some much-deserved love?!
