Well, it's official. Following a series of leaks and teasers, the Tom Sachs x NikeCraft Mars Yard 2.5 has now been confirmed by the Beaverton brand itself. Made in collaboration with the NYC-based contemporary artist, this is his fourth silhouette with the Swoosh, and here's how you can get a pair early.
As its name implies, the Mars Yard 2.5 is based off the highly coveted Mars Yard 2.0 but with a few tweaks here and there. Maintaining the original brown and red colour scheme that we all know and love, it looks like the materials have been fully reworked for a more rugged fit and finish. In fact, you'll even find rubberised toecaps at the front like a pair of classic work boots.
As part of the launch, Sachs and Nike will be giving sneakerheads the chance to wear test the shoe. If you're selected, you'll need to log your experience and write down all your feedback from start to finish. The pairs will then be returned, studied, repaired, and then reissued, similar to the Ultra Boost DNA Loop initiative that adidas introduced earlier this year.
"With this particular challenge, we are engaging people to really think about this shoe and bring different perspectives, both culturally and environmentally. This is an opportunity to invite a larger audience to really indulge in our favorite part of the process — learning about things and making stuff."
If you want to participate in the Tom Sachs x NikeCraft Mars Yard 2.5 program, you'll need to submit a one minute video via Instagram. Full details can be found in the video above. Let us know what you think of this upcoming collaboration, and in related news, the AMBUSH x Nike Dunk High "Lethal Pink" finally has a release date!
