If there’s one trend that’s taken over this winter, it's the return of the UGG boot. The comfy sheepskin styles have had social media in a chokehold this year, with styles selling out left, right and centre.
Originally made for surfers on the Californian coast, UGGs have seen quite the style trajectory over the years. After making the transition from surf to snow, the UGG became the shoe of choice for the fashionable Apres Ski crowd, before its wider appeal took it beyond the surf and slopes and into the malls.
During the early 90s, the humble UGG had its first pop culture breakthrough. Paired with her iconic red swimsuit (not one of our suggested styling options) Pamela Anderson was repeatedly papped in a pair of mid-calf UGG classics, making the boot a must-have overnight. The shoe’s next co-sign came from Oprah Winfrey, who featured the brand in a Christmas shopping segment, and it was then that UGG mania really kicked in. After that, the UGG became synonymous with the socialites of the 2000s: Paris and Nicky Hilton, or, at the other end of the spectrum, Gossip Girl’s Serena Van Der Woodsen and Blair Waldorf. Each had their own unique way of styling the shoe, but few of those looks would still pass the test today.
Though the UGG boot in itself is a bit of a throwback to the mid-2000s, you’ll be pleased to know that styling them with a velour tracksuit is a thing of the past. In fact, UGGs are much easier to style than they look, and we’ve enlisted the help of some of the office gals to prove it. If you're stuck for inspiration, its worth remembering that it's totally okay to think outside the box when styling your UGG boots. Here, we've styled this season's hottest pick-up, the platform-soled UGG Tazz three different ways, just to show off how versatile they are.
For our first look, we've kept it nice and simple with a grey sweat set and denim jacket, which makes for a nice, easy-going fit if you're out running errands. The second look keeps things nice and casual and is super-easy to recreate: all you'll need is a hoodie and your favourite pair of wide or straight-leg jeans. Finally, we've opted for something different on look three - styling the boots with ADANOLA's nylon pants and windbreaker for a more techy look.
So, if we haven't already convinced you that UGGs are actually really easy to style, then read on even further, as there's plenty more where that came from!
One of UGG’s biggest styles this year is the Tasman, which is a cute slip-on mule that features a boho-style trim around its opening. Our freelance social media star Sophie keeps her look casual by opting to team her Tasmans with a pair of baggy cargo trousers. On top, she wears a grey sweatshirt over a Kendrick Lamar tee, which gives the pair more of an edgy vibe.
To complete the look, Sophie throws on a black oversized trench coat and accessorises her look with simple jewellery before stashing all her essentials in Uniqlo’s viral shoulder bag.
If cargos aren’t your thing, then don’t panic - the trench elevates this outfit so much that we think that this would look just as good with a comfy pair of joggers and a hoodie underneath. Talk about sports-luxe!
Chloe was way ahead of the trend when she bought her UGG Ultra Minis last year and being a true UGG fan she makes for great styling inspo. She owns the classic Chesnut colourway and teams them with a timeless pair of ripped-kneed, wide-legged blue jeans. The wide leg is important here - if you were to pick a style that’s too skinny you might look like a major throwback moment!
To help her beat the autumn chill, Chloe opts for a classic oversized leather jacket and finishes her ‘fit with a cosy grey scarf and a sleek, colour-coordinated headband in line with TikTok’s favourite ‘That Girl’ trend.
It’s a look that even Hailey Bieber would be proud of, and one that proves that it’s totally possible to make a pair of UGGs look classy.
It goes without saying that UGGs and jeans are a pretty solid combo, but Elena goes for all the cosy vibes by pairing her Black Classic Mini 2s with jeans and a black turtleneck. Simple but effective, the cosy knit jumper provides just enough warmth for those chilly autumn days, while her UGGs help to keep her feet toasty, too.
When the temperature starts to drop, Elena tops the ‘fit off with a cream-coloured puffer jacket. The mid-length coat is the perfect solution for staying cosy, while the low cut of the UGGs means the proportions are still flattering on the leg, but if you wanted to go for a shorter puffer jacket, you could totally do that instead!
Finally, Georgie takes a slightly different to styling her UGG Classic Mini 2s, and goes for a more Gorpcore-inspired look. Having recently been converted to an UGG fan, she pairs the “Slate” colourway with ADANOLA’s Nylon Track pants and Everyday tee in Black for a laid-back look.
Layering up, she throws on a green checked JW Anderson x Uniqlo Fleece for all the cosy vibes. The Sherpa and UGG boot combo is a match made in heaven, so don’t be afraid to experiment with different textures when you’re building your outfit!
So, there you have it. There are plenty of ways to style UGG boots, and we hope we’ve managed to provide you with enough inspiration to prove that UGGs are super-easy to style. Now that you know exactly what to style your UGGs with, why not check out one of our other style guides below?
