Grailed is one of the largest online menswear marketplaces. Users have to option to buy, sell and even bid on high-end secondhand streetwear and menswear. The website was created in late 2013 by Arun Gupta as he recognised the lack of menswear reselling sites in comparison to womenswear. As of 2019, the site had 3.7 million active users and today exists as one of the largest menswear and resale marketplaces on the web.
If you're looking to buy, Grailed's marketplace can be pretty extensive, so step one of course will be finding what you're after and clicking through to the product page. From there you'll be presented with a few options. You can either go right ahead and click "purchase" to buy the product at the seller's listed price or alternatively you can submit an offer.
When clicking "Offer" you will be asked to submit the price you wish to pay alongside the shipping costs set by the seller. Its worth noting offers under 60% of the listing price will not be accepted to help avoid lowball offers. Remember, Grailed is a peer to peer marketplace so don't be surprised if the seller makes a counteroffer if they're looking for more money! Once both parties have reached an agreement the buyer has 24 hours to complete before the transaction expires.
Before making a purchase it's encouraged to contact the seller through the message function to ask any questions you may have. Keep your eyes out for any offers that seem too good to be true as these might be scams or counterfeit items that have slipped under Grailed's radar.
First things first, you will need to log in to your Grailed account in order to sell your pieces. Remember before selling you must link your current PayPal account in order for it to work! From there, it's pretty straightforward, click "Sell" fill out the selling form, and then take at least 3 high-quality photos of the garment (we would recommend taking as many as possible though). Having high-quality photos will make your listing stand out and make people more likely to click on it, so make sure you don't shoot in the dark and avoid using flash and artificial lighting.
Next up is pricing your item, it's important you don't price too high otherwise you'll put people off, and it's important you don't price too low so you don't rip yourself off. If you're unsure what your item is worth you can use Grailed's price comparison tool to see what similar items have sold for previously! From there click publish and your item will appear on the feed following an authentication review from the Grailed team and moderators.
Once your item is up for sale Grailed has several tools you can utilise to make sure you get a swift sale. Firstly "Bumping" will allow you to push your item to the top of the Grailed feed, you will be able to do this once a week for the first month after listing the product only. Secondly, the "Price Drop" feature will automatically drop the price by 10% and bump to the top of the feed, this is useful for attracting any potential buyers if your product has been sitting for some time.
Once you've found a buyer and accepted an offer it is then your responsibility to ship and provide tracking information and a tracking number. To avoid any possible Paypal claims its best to take some pride in your packing and wrapping skills and make sure your package is properly sealed! Every item you sell an item on Grailed is covered by PayPal's Seller Protection but remember to send your parcel signed-for to avoid any possible scam buyers!
As a buyer it's essential to have trust in where you're buying from, so Grailed implements a strict digital authentication process. In order to spot fake and inauthentic items, Grailed's team are all well versed in recognising an item's characteristics including tags, logo size and shape, embroidery and craftsmanship.
High-risk items such as Supreme, Jordan and high-end men's clothing are all required to have digital authentication before going live to ensure buyer protection and the prevention of fake items. If a seller is found to be attempting to sell inauthentic items, the account will be permanently frozen by moderators with a zero-tolerance policy in action. While it may seem harsh, this policy helps keep scammers away from Grailed making the experience easier for buyers and resellers alike.
Grailed's reasoning for having digital authentication as opposed to Stockx's in person is so they can save both the buyer and seller time in shipping fees as well as time.
To ensure customers are more relaxed when purchasing, Grailed has implemented a money-back guarantee. To start with, every purchase is covered by Paypal purchase protection as well as Grailed Protection meaning you'll receive a full refund if your item never arrives, if you receive a fake item or your item is different from the listing (e.g. quality not as good as advertised or colour/design is different).
When making a claim the process begins with Paypal and if their purchase protection is unable to resolve the issue or you're outside the 180 day claim period, Grailed will then take matters into their own hands and take over the case. Grailed offer an endless time limit on cases meaning each case will get resolved eventually.
Direct feedback is encouraged throughout the site so Grailed has implemented a 5-star scale where peers can rate each other after a successful sale. Users are ranked on how quickly and how fast they ship the item, if the item arrives as advertised and the cleanliness and presentation of the package. From there the seller is given a rating of up to 5 stars. It goes without saying it's better to buy from sellers with existing high ratings, it's also advised to avoid users with a low rating.
When you view a seller's profile you will be able to view their feedback rating out of 5 stars, how many transactions they have made, the number of current listings, followers and a feature called seller badges. Seller badges are given to sellers who are known for their exceptional service and loyalty.
Grailed has also started offering a 'verified' status to some of its users, however this is currently only offered to a very limited number of users.
In short, yes! Like any service, Grailed certainly has its minor faults, but as a whole the site is very reliable and is home to a team of dedicated and knowledgeable moderators. If you're looking to cop just remember to keep an eye out for legit and approved sellers and there's a good chance you're going to be in safe hands! Alongside this, if you're planning on selling you don't have to worry about much, Paypal and Grailed's seller protection will make sure any disputes are handled correctly and with both haste and accuracy.
