Well, this was certainly unexpected. After a five month long break from Twitter, Kanye West has returned to the social platform to announce the YEEZY x Gap collaboration. Officially titled YEEZY Gap, the collection was announced with the hashtag "#WESTDAYEVER".
According to The New York Times, the partnership will be lead directly by Ye himself and it will produce "modern, elevated basics for men, women and kids at an accessible price point." It's also expected to be a ten year long deal which can be renewed half way through with all royalties and potential equity going towards YEEZY.
"We are excited to welcome Kanye back to the Gap family as a creative visionary, building on the aesthetic and success of his YEEZY brand and together defining a next-level retail partnership." explained Global Head of Gap Brand Mark Breitbard.
While this may sound like an unprecedented move, the relationship between the rapper and the American clothing brand stretches back to when he was a teen when he worked at one of their stores. In a 2015 interview with The Cut, West said that he wanted to be the "Steve Jobs of the Gap" and that he wants "full Hedi Slimane creative control of the Gap."
