Anyone else having trouble keeping up with Kanye West? Last week the rapper and designer attacked both adidas and GAP in a now-deleted Instagram rant, which left fans thinking he was just about ready to leave the Three Stripes for good . However, recent developments show that he could be looking to stick things out at adidas, yet potentially leave his contract at GAP. Here's what you might have missed...
Speaking to Bloomberg , the artist said that he would be looking to take his business into his own hands after his existing contracts ended - with the adidas deal due to end in 2026. During the interview, he stated that “It’s time for me to go it alone,” continuing, “It’s fine. I made the companies money. The companies made me money. We created ideas that will change apparel forever. Like the Round Jacket, the Foam Runner , the Slides that have changed the shoe industry. Now it’s time for Ye to make the new industry.”
Though Ye remains under contract for now, he likened his existing relationships with his partners to co-parenting. “They my new baby mamas,” said Ye. “I guess we’re just going to have to co-parent those 350s.”
However, on Thursday, a report by the Wall Street Journal revealed that Ye could well have just tried to terminate his contract with GAP. Originally due to finish in 2030, it's said that Ye has formally notified the company of his intention to end the partnership, stating that they had failed to release apparel and open stores as originally planned.
Could this really be the end for Yeezy GAP? Will Ye then follow suit with adidas? What can we expect from Yeezy's own brand? As always, it's hard to tell, but be sure to keep it locked to The Sole Supplier for more on how this develops.
