Saucony is launching the new Endorphin Elite 3 – the brand’s most efficient racing shoe ever – and to celebrate this new release we’ve linked up with runner Leon “Sweets” Lewis, aka South London’s Forrest Gump, to chat on what running means to him and why he runs.
“I got the nickname [South London’s Forrest Gump] doing a lot of miles running around the roads of South London,” Lewis says. And while that’s the runner’s usual territory, he’s best known for his “Project Run Jamaica”, a 355k run across the island in four days (something never been done before), which he completed in May 2025. “I remember struggling running 2k,” he says, “and I worked all the way up to doing 100k ultras and running across Jamaica. I could never have imagined myself achieving or accomplishing that.”
For Lewis, it’s all about the mindset – if you believe in yourself, if you believe you can do it, you can actually do it. “I got into the mental side of it, challenging myself in other areas of my life. I've stopped having beliefs of what’s possible,” he says. “When I hit the wall, the thing that helps me break through it the most is taking that one step and continuing, focusing on the next kilometre.”
It’s a universal language which everybody speaks.
From community-building to exploring new cities, Lewis has built his life around running: “When I do actually travel I find one of the best ways to explore locally is just to do a little 5k or 10k, you find your bearings but also find some little gems along the way. I’ve made a lot of friends, connected with a lot of people globally through running – it’s a universal language which everybody speaks, and it’s an easy way to connect with people.”

Lewis may have started out with a 2k run but he has slowly, 1k at a time, not only built the endurance of running 355k in four days, but he’s also built a following and a community through it. “It’s got to a stage of me, not only inspiring myself through this journey but inspiring and impacting others, that’s, I’d say, the reason why I run.”
The Endorphin 3 drop coincided with the Saucony London 10k (an easy one for Lewis), where thousands of runners came together to celebrate running’s power to bring people together.
The new Saucony Endorphin Elite 3 is the brand’s most efficient racing shoe, engineered for the runner looking to boost their performance and unlock new PBs. Saucony has reworked the midsole geometry following runners’ feedback with a full 40mm stack of IncrediRUN foam and a carbon fibre plate for seamless propulsion.
