Saucony is stepping into new territory with its first ever partnership with the designer and creator, METAGIRL. Drawing inspiration from ancient stories about pearls, which people once believed came from the earth and the heavens, METAGIRL searched through the Saucony archives to bring back a true classic.
This creative journey resulted in a complete redesign of the ProGrid Paramount, which the duo have christened the ‘Daughter of the Moon.’ By weaving together a rich performance background with an almost magical narrative, the collaboration gives fresh purpose to a shoe from the early 2000s, reintroducing a nostalgic favourite for a new generation.
METAGIRL has gained international recognition for her innovative work in sneaker customisation. Her signature designs often feature complex, three dimensional elements that reframe well known symbols and materials through a contemporary fashion and cultural perspective. She has consistently championed feminine styles in sneakers, pushing back against the traditional, male led view of what sneaker customisation can be.
The shoe itself marries the ProGrid Paramount upper with the Triumph 4 sole unit. The silhouette's transformation is centred around a remarkable feature: a 3D printed shell heel counter. METAGIRL hand sculpted the original piece herself, before scanning and rendering it to be recreated in partnership with the Saucony Innovation Team. The upper is dressed in perforated aluminium silver leather overlays that catch the light like moonlight dancing on water, while soft organza ruffles near the eyestay symbolise the gentle uncertainty of fresh starts. The Saucony logo on the side of the shoe has a brilliant, full moon like gleam, and the small pearl studs symbolise the understated strength of women.
Saucony's Chief Product Officer, Brian Moore, commented on the significance of the release. “Marking a step forward for Saucony, the partnership with METAGIRL represents more than just a collaboration – it signals a new chapter in the brand’s commitment to elevating women’s voices within sneaker culture,” he said. “As Saucony continues to evolve, teaming up with METAGIRL brings a fresh perspective that challenges convention and opens the door for a new generation of sneaker enthusiasts.”
This shoe represents an impressive coming together of heritage and new ideas. Priced at £220, the METAGIRL x Saucony ProGrid Paramount is set for a limited pre release exclusively on the METAGIRL Studio website at Metagirlstudio.com on 29th August. A global launch will follow on 12th September (including here in the UK) through Saucony.com and select retailers, including Dover Street Market Japan, Kith Women, and Naked Copenhagen.
