JJJJound’s third collaboration with ASICS once again confirmed the Montreal-based design studio’s power to move the needle in the sneaker world. This time, the partnership landed on the cult-favourite Gel-KAYANO 14 silhouette, marrying JJJJound’s signature minimalist aesthetic with ASICS’ retro tech-runner legacy. As expected, the drop was tough to get a hold of with very limited drops across the UK.
Aside from the latest JJJJound collaboration, ASICS have been having a moment in the sneaker scene. Offering up some Y2K aesthetics, the Gel Kayano 14 has been leading the way for the Japanese Sportswear giant as the epitome of a retro runner. If you missed out on the latest JJJJound x ASICS collab but are still in need of a pair of summer-ready sneakers, here are three great alternative Gel-Kayano 14 options.
A near-perfect alternative to the JJJJound collab, the ASICS Gel-Kayano 14 “Birch Silver” brings retro vibes to this futuristic style. One of the highlights of the JJJJound x ASICS collection was the "White Midnight" colourway, which was the most limited colourway from the drop. For those still pining after it, this release offers a lot of similarities at a great price. Navy accents across the upper subtly echo the JJJJound original, while the switch to muted gold and silver tones keeps things understated and versatile.
The second JJJJound pair that dropped this week went a little bolder, injecting a hit of summer-ready blue into the Kayano 14. If that’s the look you were chasing, the ASICS Gel-Kayano 14 “Arctic Sky Pure Silver” delivers with a similar formula. Featuring crisp black and silver overlays balanced by vibrant blue panels, this version still holds that classic tech-runner energy but adds a fresh seasonal twist. It’s the kind of pair that catches eyes without screaming for attention.
Last but definitely not least, the Gel-Kayano 14 Birch Dark Pewter offers everything you need in a summer shoe. The vintage off-white upper pairs perfectly with the green detailing, offering a classic and versatile colourway that really can’t go wrong. Similar to prior JJJJound sneaker collabs with the likes of New Balance and Reebok, the main focus of this pair is its subtlety and a premium feel.
