The New Balance 204L was hugely popular when it first dropped back in 2025, but now it’s time for its sporty cousin to take over - the NB 204V.
The fashion-cool girl and matcha-drinking influencer from Europe to Asia quickly adopted the original. Fronted by Spanish singer Rosalía, the shoe wasted no time in becoming a fixture in footwear rotations.
Now that a year has passed, the Mary-Jane-style silhouette of the 204V has settled in nicely, and the variations we’ve had so far have been big hits. Embracing the sporty forefoot strap and heavy mesh panelling, it’s a strong contender for 2026’s perfect summer sneaker.

The strap and low-profile give the 204V its climbing-inspired aesthetic, ideal for ladies who are advancing both on and off the wall. The slip-on foot entrance is made possible thanks to a stretchy nylon panel, with the forefoot strap providing extra lockdown. As for the midsole and traction, they’ve been kept the same, so if you were a fan of the OG’s comfort, you’ll be covered in that department.

While we had speculated about a possible Peachyden collaboration, the first iterations dropped in striking ‘Neo Flame’ and ‘Fan Blue’ colourways, the former selling out at New Balance on the day of release.
The strap is what gives the 204V its climbing-inspired aesthetic, ideal for the ladies who are advancing both on and off the wall.
More recently, New Balance has treated us to three additional, more dialled-back pastel colourways: ‘Light Arctic Grey with Heron Blue’, ‘Turtledove with Timberwolf’, and ‘Bayberry with Lone Star Grey’.
