The New Balance 204L was hugely popular when it first dropped back in 2025, but now it’s time for its sporty cousin to take over - the NB 204V . The original was quickly adopted by the fashion cool girl and matcha-drinking influencer from Europe to Asia. Fronted by Spanish singer Rosalia, the model took next to no time in making its way into footwear rotations. Now that a year has passed, the silhouette has settled and ready to take on new forms with the updated 204V.

Like we said above, the NB 204V is the OG’s more sporty cousin, arriving in a Mary-Jane style but with a climbing-inspired twist. While we speculated at a possible Peachyden collaboration on the first “Neo Flame” and “Fan Blue” editions, the rumours have since been put to bed. That doesn’t take away from the shoe, with the red pair almost selling at New Balance upon the day of release.
You can find the remaining sizes for the red and blue colourways on New Balance now. If you have missed out on your size however, set up a release reminder here at The Sole Supplier and we’ll let you know when it comes back in stock.

The new version of the NB 204 embraces the sporty forefoot strap and heavy mesh panelling, this one is definitely for the girls looking for the latest and greatest summer sneaker for 2026.
The 204V, which we are pretty sure stands for ‘Velcro’, has a number of updates compared to the original 204L (likely for Lifestyle). The main differences are the lack of tongue and laces, both features are removed to make this fit into the techy Mary-Jane bracket. The slip-on foot entrance is made possible thanks to a stretchy nylon panel, with the forefoot strap providing extra lockdown.

The strap is what gives the 204V its climbing-inspired aesthetic, ideal for the ladies who are advancing both on and off the climbing wall. As for the midsole and traction, they haven’t been altered and remain the same, so if you were a fan of the OG’s comfort levels, you can expect the same.

This week Cosmopolitan Hong Kong took to their Instagram to reveal another three pairs of New Balance 204V colourways. Arriving in a cream, pastel blue and pastel green make-up, these offer a closer feel to the original. Styled against polka dot skirts, colourful tights and layered T-shirts, the latest update to this Mary-Jane New Balance has exactly what it takes to make it in the Japanese and scandi regions. I know The Sole Women’s are fully on board with the 204V, I know I’m waiting for the men’s colourways to drop.
