The Blueu Burnham x New Balance 991v1 has got NB-heads and Instagram’s best-dressed coming out in droves. News broke over the weekend about a collaboration between London-based jewellery brand Bleue Burnham and New Balance UK, and let’s just say getting your hands on 1 of 240 pairs won’t be easy.

Both brands have previously worked together on The Flimby Garden, a project “created as a restorative space. Somewhere to bring moments of calm, beauty and joy into the rhythm of the working day.” Since the garden has become open to the UK Flimby factory’s employees, it’s only fitting that the two celebrate it with an equally considered piece of footwear.

A lot of the online comments around this New Balance release point to how phenomenal a shoe it is, how annoyingly limited the drop is, and how it should make its way onto the feet of now-Prime Minister, Andy Burnham.
Well, I’m not sure how much of a New Balance fan Burnham actually is, but considering he’s an Everton fan, he’ll likely be open to anything remotely blue. Although, considering he’s a Toffee, getting an L in the mailing list draw would be a sad yet familiar feeling.

Drawing directly from the garden’s colours and character, precise structural stitching sits alongside free-flowing ‘wild garden’ stitching. A testament to the shared commitment to craftsmanship between both brands, each ‘wild garden’ stitch line is applied entirely by hand.”
As a fellow appreciator of the Made in UK series, I can confirm that this pair is particularly tasteful, however we’ll soon find that its retail cost might not be as palatable.
Considering the price of a typical NB 991v1, you’ll likely have to fork out anywhere from £220-£250 for this limited edition Bleue Burnham x New Balance. This is mainly down to the extra cost per unit when doing a smaller unit run, not to mention the extra time taken to achieve the embroidered detailing along the upper.

As this pinecone brown colourway is limited to 240 pairs, Sole Retriever has hinted at rumours surrounding an additional black NB 991v1 edition coming soon. This second pair will likely drop via the New Balance site, so pay attention to launches in the meantime.
After a successful drop of the "Pinecone" colourway, the Bleue Burnham x New Balance 991v1 "Black" leather edition is rumoured to be dropping in December. Here's hoping there is a bigger launch for this edition, but considering the drop is a few months away, we reckon that's enough time for the Flimby factory to knock up a decent run!
