In September of 2021, we were surprised to learn of NIGO's appointment as Artistic Director of KENZO. You would think with all the Louis Vuitton collabs and HUMAN MADE work, the 51-year-old Japanese designer would have enough on his plate, but instead, he has just made his collectional debut for KENZO with these latest FW22 offerings.
The show was hosted at Galerie Vivienne in Paris, the location in which Kenzo Takada did his first show back in 1970. To the soundtrack of his upcoming I KNOW NIGO album, NIGO designer showcased an extensive range of both menswear and womenswear looks.
As is tradition with much of NIGO's previous work, this latest collection seemingly blends classic Japanese heritage looks with Americana styling. The designs take inspiration from formal, sportswear and streetwear perspectives, all coming together to form a unique repertoire of ready-to-wear styles.
Distinctive themes are featured throughout including Japanese western styles, military-inspired pieces, bright and bold floral prints and familiar animal graphics. The full collection will be delivered in monthly drops later this year. In other news, Dickies set to celebrate a century of workwear with this SS22 collection.
