By approaching design as a sequence of "software updates," the brand cuts right through the usual industrial red tape to deliver the Air Max 1000.2.

Nike and 3D printing pioneer Zellerfeld are doubling down on a partnership that feels like a glimpse into 2030. While most brands use 3D printing for midsole gimmicks, this duo creates entire silhouettes out of thin air.
The Air Max 1000.2 is a direct evolution of the 1,000 series platform. It takes the DNA of the 1987 Air Max 1; the shoe that started the revolution; and digitises it. We’ve seen 'Lilac' and 'Multicolour' versions before, but the "Black/Black" finish finally gives this futuristic unit the stealthy, wearable edge it needed.
The leap from version 1.0 to 1.000.2 focuses on efficiency. Nike and Zellerfeld have reengineered the geometry to make the production line smarter.
For those of us actually wearing them, this means the same "soft, responsive feel" but with a more refined outsole. The shoe keeps its laceless, slip on construction, using wavy textures on the upper to pay homage to the original AM1 mudguard. It is technical, weird, and exactly what the scene needs right now.
Usually, we are at the mercy of massive factory runs and shipping containers. With Zellerfeld, Nike can pivot in weeks. This release signals a shift where sneakers become living projects rather than static products. If a lug shape isn't perfect, Nike simply updates the file for the next batch. It makes the traditional "Retro" cycle look ancient.
This May, Nike launches the "Air Works" program, inviting global creators to Beaverton. These designers will work alongside mentors to build community inspired 3D printed Air Max styles.
If you want to be an early adopter, you need to move fast. This isn't a "walk into the shop" kind of drop.
