There’s so many different sneaker silhouettes, there’s so many different collabs, we’ve got a lot of buzzy hybrid shoes from sneakerinas to sneaker-loafers, but even though the influx of sneaker drops is arguably higher than ever before, people are yearning for a simpler shoe option. We’re tired of intricate sneaker silhouettes and expensive collaborations and just want an easy and wearable silhouette to go about our day. The Nike Moon shoe was created long before the collaborations and the hybrid concepts, and stripping it back to the biggest OG might be the most punk thing to do. And it’s got Jacquemus’ and Rihanna’s stamps of approval.

About half a century later, French designer Simon Porte Jacquemus came across the OG prototypes in Nike’s archive, and made the pioneering choice to bring the Moon shoe back to life for his SS25 collection. He’s already dropped a few colourways (which have been seen on Rihanna) with campaigns starring Solange and actor Nicholas Chavez, and has a new release coming out in 2027. And, thanks to Jacquemus, Nike has completely revived the silhouette and it is now part of the brand’s permanent collection.

A shoe that doesn’t take itself seriously, the Nike Moon takes on a retro and easygoing aesthetic without trying too hard. It’s unconventional yet plain. It’s simple and it’s interesting. It’s seeped in nostalgia. Plus, it comes with lore. And just like Wales Bonner breathed new life into the adidas Samba, accelerating it into the most popular trainer of the decade, the baton might now be going to Jacquemus and the Moon.


Just a year or two ago, we would’ve said that its silhouette is not unusual or fun or eccentric enough for the market – we were going through the peak weird shoe era of the Vibram FiveFingers, the Nike Air Rifts, the Puma Mostros and Speedcat Ballets. But in 2026, simplicity might be just what we’re longing for.
