Nike are continuing to honour Black History Month this year with a new capsule collection. Having started the tradition back in 2005 with the goal of raising awareness and creating positive change, the Swoosh Brand have once again dropped a collection of clothing and special-edition sneakers, that this year takes on theme of “Future Movement.” The collection is tied to Nike’s Future Movement Broadcast series, which was launched in 2021 and features conversations with Black creators, athletes, and advocates who are campaigning for a better future for their community.
The collection consists of tees and hoodies that bear the “Future Movement” wordmark, as well as a customisable Air Force 1. Falling under the Nike By You family of personalised products, the AF1 Low “Joy By You” allows customers to put their spin on the sneaker. Options include translucent paneling that plays host to an intricate pattern and wear-away panels that fade into red, green or yellow. According to Nike, the colours are designed to represent “the vibrant energies of light within.”
In addition to this, Nike and Jordan Brand are continuing with their commitment to invest $140 million into the Black Community over the next 10 years, and have announced the fund’s recipients for 2022. These recipients include Son of a Saint, All Star Code, Big Brothers Big Sisters of America and the Equal Justice initiative.
Up next, the Nike Air Force 1 gets a spring-ready makeover.
