This is a huge day for Nike. After ten years of work, the Swoosh have finally unveiled their latest proprietary footwear cushioning system, dubbed Joyride. Putting a huge focus on lightweight comfort, this could possibly be the Beaverton-based brand's biggest advancement in running technology to date, and it might change the industry as we know it.
Made up of literally thousands of tiny TPE beads, each and every one is positioned to provide a high level of energy return with every step. The sole itself is made up of several pods, and each pod contains a different amount of beads depending on where needs it most. For example, the heel region contains 50% of the 8,000 beads, while the toe only gets 5%. Doing this provides runners with a more personalised underfoot experience.
“Every runner faces the same problem: stress from pounding the pavement. We knew we needed a completely new cushioning system.” explained Will Moroski, Senior Product Line Manager for Nike.
This is Nike's second major cushioning system since React foam launched in June 2017, so naturally, we're beyond hyped for what's to come in the future. Joyride will make its debut on the Nike Joyride Run Flyknit on July 25th for members only, followed by a wider release on August 15th.
A few other models are also in the works, including the Joyride NSW Setter, Optik, Joyride NSW, and a high heat collab with 1017 ALYX 9SM creative director and designer Matthew Williams that's scheduled for September 22nd.
Let us know if you'll be riding the Nike Joyride train, and be sure to keep it locked at The Sole Supplier for the latest and greatest in the world of sneakers!
