Set to be the next big thing from the Boston-based brand, the New Balance 1906R might be new to you, but that's far from the case for New Balance. Sat in the archives since 2009, this NB runner is guaranteed to follow in the footsteps of the New Balance 2002R to become the next retro sneaker on everyone's minds. Sharing the same ABZORB cushioning and N-ergy midsole as the 2002R means that the silhouette is just as comfortable, rivalling that of the 990 and 992. But if that's not convinced you that you absolutely need a pair, then take a look through these upcoming GR colourways.
Having collaborated with Korean brand thisisneverthat on a comeback model, it has now been unveiled that a series of fairly neutral 1906Rs will be arriving in celebration of the dad sneaker that rivals all other dad sneakers. In a lot of the styles, you'll see that the upper is constructed from a mixture of leather and mesh, with all iterations housing an aggressive TPU heel clip for added support and stability. Many offer up an aged midsole, giving the silhouette that vintage look that is so on-trend right now, but also honours the history of the sneaker and subtly tells us this is not brand new to the market.
Like other New Balance silhouettes, the 1906R displays the large 'N' logo on both the medial and lateral sides of the shoe. Outlined by piping, all of the Ns show off 'NLOCK' branding, whilst 'N-ergy' can be found printed on the midsole.
The New Balance 1906R "White Black Red" offers up more colours than the "White Silver Gold", depending on the look you want to go for, whilst the third "Navy White Gold" sits nicely in between the two if you're looking for a middle ground.
The two styles above were actually mistakenly reported to be samples of thisisneverthat collaborations. Now, we're aware that these are just set to be GR pairs, as confirmed by New Balance's Global Collaborations Manager.
The "Black" shows off a super stealthy appearance, one that vastly differs to the "White Red" iteration. That being said, both pairs offer up a vintage, yellowed midsole. They're almost reminiscent of the "Phantom" 2002R from earlier this year.
If neutral sneakers are your trainer of choice, then you'll have a tough time choosing between these next three. That being said, green is right on-trend for AW this year, so you can hope the New Balance 1906R "White Green" will drop in time for this coming season.
Finally, we're finishing off with the stealthy "Grey Blue" colourway; perfect for those rainy days.
