We decided to take a look back at what a crazy year it's been for sneaker releases! From new silhouettes to statement colourways, 2019 has not let us down. We got in touch with some of the most influential female sneakerheads in the scene to get the low down on their most loved pair of kicks, most overrated and much more.

We caught up with female sneakerhead @peepdeezsneaks known on Instagram for her crazy sneaker collection and dreamy on-foot shots. She reveals her favourite sneaker release from 2019 and discusses how female sneaker culture has evolved this year, read on to find out more!

What has been your favourite sneaker release of the year?

My favourite sneaker release of 2019 (that I managed to cop at least) has got to be the Jordan 1 Crimson Tint. They're a pair that I haven't quite seemed to get over and still wear often. These days I'm pretty picky with what I choose to purchase as I'm a bit strapped for room but they've got to be one of my favourite purchases this year. It also doesn't hurt that they're the shoe I get the most compliments on every time I wear them.

Do you think the female sneaker culture has changed at all this year?<br />

I believe it's changed a lot for the better and I hope it continues in that trajectory. I've seen a noticeable difference with brands like Nike, Puma and Footlocker who have put a huge emphasis on women in sport, design and fashion. As a woman, I look for role models where my interests lie, and to see women who I feel like I connect with working and collaborating with brands I respect, keeps me motivated to continue doing what I love even more in the hope that one day I'll be in a similar position. I've also noticed that there are a few more well sought after sneakers releasing in full size runs (more so than previous years), which gives us girls more of a chance to rock what we like.

If you could only wear one pair of sneakers for the next 5 years, what would it be and why?

If I could wear 1 shoe for the next 5 years it'd have to be my all-white Nike Air Force 1. In general, the AF-1 is one of the most iconic silhouettes. They're a staple sneaker that I think everyone should own and they go with anything I wear, whether it's wearing them to the office, a night out at a bar or just with jeans and a t-shirt, it always works. I also love them because apart from the fact that they're super light and comfy, I feel like anyone can really pull them off.

Most overrated sneaker of the year?

I might get some hate for this but I think the most overrated pair (at least as of recently) is the shattered backboard 3.0. There was a lot of talk about these leading up to their release, I saw a lot of people in the sneaker world talk sh*t about the way they looked but at the end of the day, there was still a line at every store releasing them. No disrespect, but personally I thought they were overrated.

What is a pair of sneakers you think everyone needs in their rotation?

A pair of New Balance! I recently got my hands on my first couple of pairs on NBs (977h and 990v5) and I was so surprised at how comfortable they were from the first wear. I feel like I've been living under a rock because no matter the shoe, I've always felt at least a little bit of discomfort the first time I wear a sneaker until I break them in, but these were different, it felt like they were made for my feet. I'm officially converted!
