The Size? adidas Manchester Drop Proves Sneaker Culture’s Still Alive

The final string in the bow. The last feather in the proverbial cap. Whatever phrase you feel is most appropriate, that’s a wrap for the Size? 25th Anniversary adidas City Series.

Unlike the City Series drops before it, all the in-store launches went ahead as planned -Birmingham supposedly pulling in the biggest crowds. The Brummies take their adidas seriously, and why wouldn’t you?

This time it was Manchester’s turn, with the adidas collectors showing out for their city’s edition. The first adidas heads were lining up as early as 14:00 the day before launch.

It was great to see the adidas City Series fanatics turning up — it’s almost as if the whole ‘sneaker culture is dead’ conversation hasn’t registered with this crowd. No ebbs and flows here; the 3-Stripes lot are in it for the love of the game, their best SPZL clobber and denim getting them through the chilly morning queues.

Not to forget a shoutout to the Manchester morning skyline, which not only reflected the mood but almost the shoe itself. I’m sure if the Size? Manchester store had dropped an hour earlier, Market Street would have been littered with blokes holding up their freshly purchased pair against the swathes of pink and blue.

Spotted on feet was a slew of adidas heat, with Manchester GTs, Córdoba, and even Moss Sides getting a well-deserved moment in front of the camera.

Having worked in the stockroom for the launch of the adidas 20th Anniversary City Series Córdoba, it was fun to witness the drop from the other side of the doors. Even without myself scrambling after the blue boxes, the Manchester Size? crew managed the whole drop with ease.
